[enter-talk] THE DIFFERENCE IN THE RECEPTION OF 'PARASITE' IN KOREA AND THE STATES

T/N: Contains spoilers

The movie <Parasite> which was released in May this year and which was the first Korean movie to receive the Palme D'Or at the Cannes Festival was walking on the golden path the whole year

But there's an interesting factor that differed between the Korean and the US' reception of the movie

In Korea, if people were to choose which female actress was the most memorable in the movie, the majority would choose Lee Jungeun-nim (T/N: she won "Best Supporting Actress" in the Blue Dragon Film Awards this year for the movie)

She played the role of the house maid and was pretty average? for the first ghalf of the movie but...

After the intercom scene, her character developed so rapidly
People who watched the movie even said that the movie really starts after that scene

Meanwhile in the states,
the people usually picked Jo Yeojung as the most memorable female character

I'm not saying that she can't act but maybe it's because Lee Jungeun's intercom scene was too memorable?..
Jo Yeojung just doesn't really ever get mentioned in Korea

Park Sodam also got way more favorable reviews in the states
(The toilets overflowing scene, they also said that her Jessica song was entertaining so they liked her)

Oh..? People never really talk about Jo Yeojung's acting but her naive and her I-don't-know-much-about-the-world acting was good. It made me rediscover her. I saw a lot of comments praising her acting though... She also won Best Actress at the Blue Dragon

I did think that Jo Yeojung's acting was good before but her potential burst in Parasite. She really looked like someone who didn't know anything ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ it didn't even seem like acting. It was so natural that she just looked like someone like that

Interesting ㅎㅎ

Jo Yeojung won the Best Actress but nobody was talking about it. She got acknowledged so that's why she won the prize

In Korea, the older actor and actresses always get more praises than the younger actor and actresses

The fact that Jo Yeojung won Best Actress says everything
